Do you want to make your tweets more personalized? Wouldn’t social media be more fun if you could actually talk to other people rather than just type? Now there are five programs that can allow you to integrate your own recorded audio into Twitter. You can use this new-found power to sing someone a song, tell them a joke or tell them how much you miss them – whatever you can dream up!

1. Twaud.io: this service allows you to both record and upload files – you just need to sign in and approve your computer’s mic. You are allowed up to thirty minutes of recording! You can record and listen to the playback all on the same program.

2. Chirbit: has categories such as  is “audiobook,” “joke,” “pickup line” designed to help the Chirbit community find content more easily, but if you are just using it as a social media tool you only need to pay attention to the default “Chirbit” category.

3. Chir.ps: offers the same recording and playback process, as the others, but just know that there’s a slight delay before the tweet will hit your stream. When the Chir.ps is in your stream it will have a shortened URL attached to it to allow people to clickthrough and listen. One nice feature of this program is a “listen count” so you can see how many people have hit play.

4. AudioBoo: with this program you only have 5 minutes of recording time, but then you can choose to share your audio to Facebook, tweet it or get an embed code. AudioBoo has good sound recording quality.

5. Shoutomatic: one cool feature of Shoutomatic is people are able to reply directly on your message page directly within the program. Also, for a fee you can have “celebrities” record a message for you.

  I have been seeing mentions of augmented reality all week long. I don't know if it's because of the Consumer Electronics Show or what but I decided to put up my own post on it. For those of you who don't know, Augmented Reality is the merging of the real and virtual worlds. It's sort of like virtual reality except its probably a little more useful. I went to a local AIGA shift.option talk lunch and Michael Kern from welikesmall got me really hooked on the idea. A few companies have used this new technology for marketing purposes and they have worked extremely well. Esquire pulled off a beautiful AR cover of their magazine, the cover itself worked perfectly but once you hold up the magazine to your computer's camera new virtual content is shown to the reader adding a whole new level to magazine publishing. I delved a little deeper into the world of AR to see what people are doing with this new tech. It seems like this holiday season it was used for a few cards. It looks to me that Japan is ahead of us as usual in the technology department. Katamari inc. who is famous for strangely bizaar video games sent out a great  New Years card. Check it out here. I made my own card for it and you can download the pdf here. Another Japanese company RDZ Comic has turned AR into a highly amusing game. I've embedded one of the games below but make sure and check out their website to play them all. Hit play and then click the print button at the top right to print out the corresponding sheet.

I’m pretty sure it can do anything. We just need to unlock the power that it holds. A couple of engineers have done just that and created a remote control car. Not a little plastic one that you can buy at Toy R Us but a real automobile. It looks pretty scary but I would drive it. I guess Pierce Brosnan’s Z3 wasn’t too far off when they made Goldeneye. Featuring over 130 visual artists, 100 performing arts groups and over 18 culinary artists, the festival draws over 80,000 patrons each June

The AIGA will be holding daily workshops teaching how to give new life to local reclaimed billboard and vinyl material. You can craft a one-of-a-kind accessory by turning a once giant image into smaller works of art. Come produce or purchase pre-made handbags, wallets, totes and more. The process is easy and requires no previous experience. It’s a great opportunity to learn about design, layout and color to turn the fabric intro a piece of urban art

I finally got to see the New Museum on the Bowery this past weekend. The Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone’s was chosen to have his installation “Hell, Yes!” on the exterior of the new building. His installation is meant to “encapsulate the philosophy of openness, fearlessness, and optimism that surrounds the New Museum’s reemergence in the contempory art community.”

The exhibit at the museum is called “Younger than Jesus,” the first edition of “The Generational,” the New Museum’s new signature triennial. Fifty artists from twenty-five countries will be presented. “The Generational: Younger Than Jesus” shows works being produced by a new generation of artists born after 1976. Known to demographers, marketers, sociologists, and pundits variously as the Millennials, Generation Y, iGeneration, and Generation Me, this age group has yet to be described in any way beyond their habits of consumption. “Younger Than Jesus” will begin to examine the visual culture this generation has created to date.

I found the exhibit very interesting, but the actual building is what stands out most. From the the Sky Room and balcony, you can see all over the Lower East Side. Inside, on the “LIVE ARCHIVE” timeline, an entire wall covered with bright colored papers listing historical and cultural events from 1976-2009, I saw things in my birth year of 1978 such as the Iran Revolution.
