How does this fit into social media? With the content that is uploaded, it gets spread into other social media sites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. When the information gets spread to other social networking sites, it allows for the companies to get their products and ideas out to a broader market.

When uploading the information on SlideShare it also allows you to embed slideshows into your own blog or website, market your own event on SlideShare, and join groups on SlideShare who share your own interests. When used effectively, SlideShare can really help build your presence online.

When posting your presentation online through SlideShare, it is important you distinguish yourself and your company. MarketProfs lists the following four tips of effectively distinguishing yourself:

You can use this new-found power to sing someone a song, tell them a joke or tell them how much you miss them – whatever you can dream up!

1. Twaud.io: this service allows you to both record and upload files – you just need to sign in and approve your computer’s mic. You are allowed up to thirty minutes of recording! You can record and listen to the playback all on the same program.

2. Chirbit: has categories such as  is “audiobook,” “joke,” “pickup line” designed to help the Chirbit community find content more easily, but if you are just using it as a social media tool you only need to pay attention to the default “Chirbit” category.

3. Chir.ps: offers the same recording and playback process, as the others, but just know that there’s a slight delay before the tweet will hit your stream. When the Chir.ps is in your stream it will have a shortened URL attached to it to allow people to clickthrough and listen. One nice feature of this program is a “listen count” so you can see how many people have hit play.

4. AudioBoo: with this program you only have 5 minutes of recording time, but then you can choose to share your audio to Facebook, tweet it or get an embed code. AudioBoo has good sound recording quality.

5. Shoutomatic: one cool feature of Shoutomatic is people are able to reply directly on your message page directly within the program. Also, for a fee you can have “celebrities” record a message for you.

The piece won itself a lot of buzz from both sides of the proverbial fence. Anti-Twitterers were all, “AHA! I knew this was just a passing fad!” Pro-Twitterers ranged from defensive to hurt, arguing that Pear’s characterization of “pointless babble” was subjective and narrow.

But before you wipe Twitter off the whiteboard, consider this: Said “pointless babble” is exactly what makes Twitter such a rich resource for brands seeking to discover what users really think about them. Without the pressure of being profound, and with the brevity and speed afforded by updating your status instantly, users say exactly what’s on their minds, for the most-part unedited, and often revealing.

For example, a casual Twitter search of “Inglourious Basterds” following its premier revealed that the majority of users who’d seen it wanted to see it again. Now, that’s great on-the-spot info for a movie producer!

And a search for “Skittles” reveals the candy brand’s fixed state in the pop culture: People casually proclaim their love for Skittles, upload videos involving playing with Skittles and even swap color preferences.

The message for marketers here? Don’t let naysaying stats-panderers rob you of a priceless education—found only by dipping into a trendy technology and discovering for yourself why it is (or isn’t) valuable for your company.

The Po!nt: Don’t dis the tweet just yet. Keeping an open mind (especially about social media) is a major attribute of staying ahead of the game these days.

We spent 4 hours talking about social media (like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn) and other resources that can help improve web traffic. Even though we were only able toskim the surface, I think attendees came away with some pointers that they can use to really help them improve their visibility on the web.

These are all very valid questions. We are all hearing more and more about social media, and more and more people are joining these networks. These mediums are now being used in new and unique ways by businesses to get in front of their target audiences.

One tool in the toolbox
We all know there is no “silver bullet” in public relations or marketing. There is no single medium that will magically bring the masses pounding on our doors demanding to use our product or service. However, I firmly believe social media is a tool that should be in every marketing and public relations professional’s toolbox; in that way, it can be utilized strategically to complement and augment other marketing and public relations efforts.

What is social media?
At the core of social media marketing is the principle that by listening to consumers and requesting their feedback, organizations will better understand what their customers need, want, and value. Then, as the organization responds to these needs and wants with value propositions that align with what is being requested, trust and brand loyalty is engendered.

Let’s face it—no one likes to be sold to. We want to interact and be heard. Social media allows for this two-way communication.

Sometimes referred to as “buzz mar¬keting,” social media marketing allows organizations to be seen as experts in their field and can help spread their services, products, ideas, and innovations.

Why use social media?
There are some very compelling reasons to use social media. Consider the following:

Cost
For the most part social media is FREE to use (the exception is the user’s time utilized to send out Tweets, update Facebook pages, etc.) and can be created and deployed quickly and efficiently. As a business, you can find this to be cost-effective marketing that can grow your client base and bolster your revenue.

Targeting
Utilizing the information members of social media networks willingly give in their personal profiles, social media has the ability to directly reach target audiences based on their interests, occupation, and experience. This ensures you can “drill down” to make sure your message is seen by the people you want to notice you. You have an online community of literally hundreds of millions of people worldwide that will potentially share your enthusiasm and inter¬est in your message.

Analytics
Philadelphia department store pioneer John Wanamaker once uttered a marketing truism: “Half of the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is, I don’t know which half.”

Utilizing the analytics available via social media and interactive outlets, you can now discover what is working. Using these tools, you no longer have to scratch your head or take your best guess where to invest your marketing budget. Tools now exist that allow you to create, distribute and track web, video, e-mail, and other social media marketing efforts immediately. You can see what is working in real-time and immediately refine your messaging to improve results. You can quantify your initiatives and measure your efforts.

Using social media tools, you can (and should) review the success rate often. As you see what is and is not working, you can then refine your online marketing mix and messaging to achieve maximum results.

The bottom line is that marketing and public relations efforts often deal with getting the word out, engaging in meaningful conversations, taking suggestions, solving problems, educating audiences, and promoting organizations, products, and services.

So, what is the best way to begin?
Get out and meet some revolutionaries. Talk to people actively engaged in social media. Ask them for pointers—what has and has not worked. Get inspired. And realize you probably cannot do this alone, but you still should do it. After all, the masses are out there just waiting to hear from you.

At the heart of the supposed features is the ability to broadcast what you’re listening to, as well as an application – separate from iTunes – that would consolidate all of your social networking profiles. BGR says this app is comparable to Yahoo One Connect, a mobile application that the search media company launched last year.

While playing in the same arena as Facebook (especially post-FriendFeed acquisition) sounds like an unlikely route for Apple, it would clearly make sense for them to allow you to easily broadcast what you’re listening to, song purchases, and ratings/reviews to social sites.

One can easily imagine Facebook Connect and Sign-in With Twitter options being added to the product, with status updates that automatically include short links to the music (not to mention movies, tv shows, and apps) that a user is broadcasting about. That would directly translate to additional revenue for Apple, without requiring them to make significant changes to its iTunes strategy. Details, as with most things Apple, are scarce, but this will be a development worth keeping an eye on.
